Back to school displays are starting to pop up around town. While you’re prepping your own kids for the school year don’t forget to help out area kids whose parents struggle to get them the supplies they need. Keep in mind that most organizations can purchase more than you can with $1, so cash donations are often the best option. One website stated: because of our bulk purchasing, every $1 donated is equal to $5 worth of school supplies and uniforms. Below are some ways you can help. And don’t forget this years tax-free weekend for school supplies (including clothes) is August 5 – 7. Learn more here.
The School Supply Project
Resurrection Lutheran Church
1919 Independence Parkway, Plano
Each year the project delivers over 2500 backpacks to students within the Plano Independent School District. You can donate supplies, cash or your time. Supplies can be dropped during normal business hours. Check their website for a list of urgently needed supplies.
Christ United Methodist Church
3101 Coit Road, Plano
July 24 – August 7
The School Supply Project provides school supplies to the disadvantaged students in the Plano Independent School District via the Assistance Center of Collin County. Visit their website for a list of needed items. Items can be dropped off at the school bus displays located at the north and south entrances of the main building.
Seven Loaves Community
July 8 – August 1
To help Collin County children get back to school on the right foot, Seven Loaves Community provides back packs and school supplies to registered Food Pantry clients. Distribution is Wednesday, August 3rd. Drop off bin located in the youth rotunda. Visit their website to make a cash donation.
Community Partners of Dallas
August 1 – 19
Provides age appropriate school supplies and uniforms to nearly 2,500 Dallas County children. Donate supplies, cash or your time. Drop-off locations include Carlisle Title at 5801 Tennyson Parkway, Plano and 17103 Preston Road, Dallas & Nathan Grace 1391 West Campbell Road, Richardson
Frisco Reach Out
Their End of the Summer Celebration is Saturday, August 13th, helping underprivileged families in Frisco and the surrounding areas. They are looking for volunteers to work that day, and need donations of cash, school supplies, shoes, accessories, toiletries and gently-used kids clothes. Contact them to hold a school supplies drive.
Allen Community Outreach
801 E. Main Street, Allen
The sole local provider of free human services for the cities of Allen, Fairview and Lucas in Collin County. Visit their website to make a cash donation.
Plano, Murphy and Frisco locations
Donate school supplies August 1 – 31. Items will go to CASA of Collin County (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Donors will receive a Free Shake Card redeemable for any 14 oz. shake at PDQ.
