A 4-week league, play Minecraft in the movie theater! $60/player. Most participating children are around 6-18 years old, but gamers of all ages are welcome. Each player will need a laptop with Minecraft version 1.9.2 installed. You will also need your own unique Mojang account and Minecraft username in order to join a team and participate.

Shrek The Musical Jr.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

This is your chance to be a rocket scientist! Explore the science involved in rocket construction as you build and launch your own rocket. Watch an amazing rocket launch as it soars to the sky! Mobile App Workshop: Writing Simple Games

Basics on how to write games on Android devices using MIT App Inventor software. Participants need a laptop with the latest Chrome or Firefox browsers for these hands-on classes! Additional free software download instructions will be available for each class when you register. Presented in partnership with OASiS & TiE. Registration required. The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)

In the much beloved tradition of Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), we join two misfits on an unforgettable odyssey. For a young orphan “human bean”, the sight of a giant outside her window is terrifying, and she fears for her life when he whisks her away to an enchanted land. This Big Friendly Giant is not like other giants, however. The job of this larger-than-life vegetarian is to blow magical dreams into children’s bedrooms, and together they embark on a quest to save England from the “gizzard-gulping” giants who don’t have the BFG’s tender heart. The cheeky BFG ultimately shows that heroes can come in all sizes. Recommended for ages 7+

Once On This Island Jr.

With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean-flavored score, Once on This Island JR. is a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical by the legendary writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty. Through almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death.

Chalk Talk

Presented by Baylor Medical Center at Frisco and FOX 4. The topic is Training, Conditioning, Performance and Diet. Learn how to prepare for higher level of sports through training, conditioning and diet to raise your performance level in a safe and productive way.  Children in attendance have the opportunity to work with the Sci-Tech staff in educational, hands-on activities (for ages 4-8). Children over age 9 who play sports, as well as their parents, coaches and teachers will benefit from the panel discussions. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. Registration is free and seating limited.

Family Canoe Try-It
Heard Museum, McKinney
Saturday, May 21st
Experience the amazing diversity in wetland vegetation and wildlife while learning about the history and basics of wetland ecology. After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the Heard wetlands, followed by free paddle time to explore on your own. Pre-registration required.

Star Warp Weekend
June 3rd – 5th
Geppetto’s Marionette Theater, North Dallas
After two years of marionette production, this show has landed. This Sci Fi parody features iconic characters in comical
scenarios. Martians, aliens, stormtroopers, bounty hunters and space knights all make an appearance. Dueling light sabers, comical dance choreography and trick marionettes add to show content which is out of this world. May the Farce with You. Recommended ages 5+. Tickets on sale May 13th.
