The Kiwanis Butterfly Festival is happening now at The Shops at Willow Bend through Sunday, May 17th.  This is a fundraiser, with proceeds going towards local programs (like a $5,000 scholarship they gave away last week).

The butterflies are inside a large tent on the first floor, near the Starbucks.  You pay to enter ($6 adults, $5 children – download $1 off coupon here) and can get a stick with food on the end to attract butterflies and check them out up close.  There are lots of plants inside that butterflies love, plus some feeding stations.  You can’t go in with strollers, and there is a spot to park them.

I went in the morning, and there were plenty of school groups going through, so you might have to wait a little before you can go inside.   They are also selling some butterfly/bug themed toys, accessories and jewelry, as well as butterfly feeding stations and you can buy a chrysalis!

I was planning to go inside, but then the school called and I had to leave (it’s always the monkey bars, right?), so I bought a chrysalis for $5.  We are excited to see our butterfly!

They are also offering face painting ($10 full face, $5 partial or arm) and they take credit cards.
